Blogiversary + Giveaway!

On November 16, 2010 I started this blog, something I had wanted to do but hadn't, for fear of rejection.  Fast forward one year and my DIY projects have been featured on Design*Sponge, Apartment Therapy and even in Living Etc. magazine!  The townhouse has been featured on fabulous blogs like Better After, Curbly and Made by Girl (and many others).  Yay!  Not being rejected feels good.

But the best part of blogging has been the chance to connect with people from all over the world to chat about decorating, renovating and DIY.  I live for readers comments and emails!

To celebrate one year of blogging (and to thank you all for following along), I'm hosting my first-ever giveaway!!  With Christmas around the corner, I thought one of my handmade, one-of-a-kind Christmas spiders might be a nice way to thank my blog friends, old & new.

I make and sell these spider Christmas tree ornaments and every year they sell like hotcakes (I even made them as wedding favors for our winter wedding!)  Here's the legend that accompanies them:

Why Every Christmas Tree Needs a Spider:

A long time ago in Germany, a mother was busily cleaning for Christmas. The spiders fled to the attic to escape the broom. When the house became quiet the spiders slowly crept downstairs for a peek.

Oh what a beautiful Christmas tree!

In their excitement they scurried up the trunk and out along each branch. They were filled with happiness as they climbed all over the glittering tree.  As they climbed, the tree became completely shrouded in their dusty grey spider webs.

When St. Nicholas came with the gifts for the children and saw the tree covered with spider webs, he smiled because saw how happy the spiders were, but he knew how heartbroken the mother would be if she saw the tree covered with the dusty webs.

So he turned the webs to silver and gold. The tree sparkled and shimmered and was even more beautiful than before.

That's why we have tinsel on our tree and every tree should have a Christmas spider in it's branches!

~Author Unknown (and the story varies - sometimes Santa Claus is the leading man)

  51. Hi everyone, I've been itching to comment but didn't want to skew the comments and draw my own when I entered the range in random.org. Now that the contest is closed, I wanted to thank everyone for their kind words! It was so lovely to hear from so many readers - and such a pleasure to "meet" so many new followers.

I wish I could send you all a spider, but check back Monday to see who the lucky duck was.

And thanks again for being such awesome readers!!
