"Dans le Lakehouse" is my Bugs Bunny-esque French for "In the Lakehouse". I'm a bad Canadian.
I'm a turquoise-loving, tile-destroying, fox-feeding (hey, they walked right in!), abstract-painting, Hungarian-speaking, DIY-loving, design-snooping, Szuka-smooching, city mouse turned country gal. I'm a feminist, a Dr. (but not the useful kind), and a bad wife but the most important thing to know about me is that I'm a maker. From renovating a kitchen to taking a stab at Hungarian embroidery, from painting a car to grooming our giant, 85 pound Komondor, there are few projects I won't try - as long as my Handy Hubby is game too.
I started this blog, formerly Dans le Townhouse, a year after Hubby and I bought our first house...a townhouse (I will never have a job naming things). We've been DIYing together since we met as teens, so of course we bought a fixer upper. We spent years updating our little 1970's townhouse. In 2013 we sold our place (with disappointing results) and moved 1600km to our second house, a lovely but tired year-round cottage on Lake Superior. We're updating our little lakeside gem on a budget, transforming it from a 1990s oak bonanza into a sleek, mid-century inspired abode, and I'm so excited to share it with you.
P.S. Who is Handy Hubby? He's the brawn behind some of our most ambitious projects (like our DIY wood counters) and also the second set of hands for some of my fancier DIYs (like these agate necklaces). We spent four months apart when I spent time in Hungary doing research so he took over the blog to share his thoughts on our time apart.
