THIS CONTEST IS NOW CLOSED. CONGRATS ASHLEY (From First Home Dreams)! THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO ENTERED.
I'm jealous of whoever wins this prize pack because although First Alert gave me two modern and stylish smoke detectors to review, both are in the townhouse! The lakehouse, on the other hand, still has ugly, bisque-coloured smoke detectors (one of which has been yelling at me in French since we removed it for painting). One of you is going to win: a PC900VA Alarm, the new ATOM Alarm, plus a cute and cheery oil and vinegar set (a $110 value, so it's nothing to sneeze at).
This is the new ATOM:
Isn't it cute? It's smaller than an egg, so it's a lot more subtle than the bulky detectors of yore. We installed ours in the ensuite half bathroom because I'm so worried about hair straighteners and fires (entirely because of that Friends episode, but it never hurts to be safe).
To Enter:
For a chance to win, just leave a comment below. For fun, tell my how homely your current smoke detector is. That's it! Contest runs until Thursday, October 17th, Midnight EST. Winner will be chosen by random.org.
Bonus Entries (leave a comment for each):

As an added bonus, First Alert is running a Facebook contest, giving away an ATOM per day. Check that out here (the ad is super adorable).
Good luck and happy weekend!

My smoke detector isn't too bad but it's CHEAP! You can see the lack of quality when you look at it. Our house is only five years old but when it was built they skimped on everything they could.
ReplyDeleteI would love one of these guys! We have regular ol' CD sized detectors...I try to ignore them as best I can.
ReplyDeleteMy current smoke detector is quite homely... and I don't think it works properly since when we start a fire in our fireplace but forget to open the flu... it doesn't go off! :S
ReplyDeleteOur smoke detectors came with our house and they are the basic model so we could definitely use an upgrade.

My alarm is not only large and beige, it is also stained, and leaves a noticeable gap in the wall. Yeah, I need to win this one.

ReplyDeleteWe have one smoke detector and i'm confident it is original to this 1977 house. So with our first kiddo due in December modernizing is at the top of my list. I love how small these guys are.
ReplyDeleteIt's Huge, Chunky and an Ugly Beige Color. It Stands Out Like a Sore Thumb on the White Ceiling of Our Tiny Cottage. I would LOVE to Replace the CLUNKSTER With the Tiny, First Alert Model.
ReplyDeleteThank You So Much For the Opportunity to Win!
Sincerely,

I'm actually happy with our smoke detectors (and also with the First Alert fire ladders I bought for our kiddos). But, in the same way ugly smoke detectors grate on you, misused words drive me, a writer, NUTS. So instead of entering the contest, I'd like to enter a note to First Alert: That poster should say "A winner every day" instead of "A winner everyday." "Everyday" is a descriptor that means common, typical, ordinary; it should almost always be followed by another word, as in "an everyday occurrence." /end rant. BTW, love your turquoise kitchen cabinets!
ReplyDeleteI'll be sure to remove your comment from the contest, but pass on your comments. I shudder to think of all the errors you find in my posts :)
DeleteNo, no, no, please don't be self-conscious. This is a blog; you should write the way you talk. And you have a wonderfully readable, approachable, enthusiastic style. My objection is to professional materials, especially from big companies with the resources to hire an editor, that have (ahem) those everyday mistakes.
DeleteThanks :) And LOL. What bothers me is the constant misuse of "less" when "fewer" should be used, in print ads and professional materials.
DeleteI do worry about my grammar and the like, though, because that is my weakness is academic writing too (although I've gotten better over the years). I've even made a point to take a lot of writing courses but the rules don't always stick. Ah well, I'm happy to hear that reading my blog doesn't make you cringe :)
I have a mad fear of fires, so I have smoke detectors in pretty much every room. I'd love to start replacing them with this pretty thing.

ReplyDeleteOur smoke detector is the old round ones. I hope it is not the original one, but I don't remember ever putting it up. Would love to win this one.

My smoke alarm is hanging by a wire and engulfed in cobwebs...please send a new one! :)
ReplyDeleteThese are cute!
ReplyDeleteOur current 3 alarms (one per floor) are really old and came with the house. The one on the main floor goes off every time we cook bacon. EVERY time. It hates bacon.
Thank you for offering such a wonderful giveaway. We just moved into a new house and the smoke detectors are so old the plastic has turned yellow. They are functional, but horrible looking. I would love to replace them with the slick and modern ATOM alarm.

ReplyDeleteWe are in the process of remodeling our first house and you are right, these little things make a huge difference when trying to make a 70s house look more modern!

ReplyDeleteDo you notice a lot of mistakes in print ads too? There are certain grammatical errors that seem to be more and more prevalent. Also, did you hear that apparently "literally" now means "metaphorically," as per the dictionary.
