20 Gorgeous Turquoise Kitchen Accessories to Love

Clearly, I love turquoise.

I've always loved turquoise, but it wasn't until moving lakeside that I felt liberated enough to really embrace the color.  In the townhouse I really played it safe because I was so concerned with resale.  My style, as you've seen, is actually much bolder when I'm not constrained by trying to create a space everyone will love.  I'm the gal who once painted my car lime green - I'm drawn to color.

After painting my kitchen cabinets turquoise, and realizing how HAPPY the room made me, I started to play pretty fast and loose with the color, peppering in some vintage blues and shades of green so it's not all aqua, all the time.  There's even a little bright orange here and there.  It's been almost three years since we moved to the lakehouse and Hubby and I both agree that our house feels happy and uplifting - and very "us". 

If you've been wanting to add a dash of aqua to your kitchen, without going all in like we did, I've rounded up my favorite cheery - and practical! - turquoise kitchen accessories.   There's tons of aqua kitchen accessories out there, from cutting boards to kitchens tools, but these are my favorites because they have that perfect mix of modern-retro I love.

Turquoise Bread Box:
Could this retro-inspired turquoise bread box be any cuter?  The shape reminds me of an Airstream trailer.

Turquoise Bakery Box:
If you don't have room for a breadbox - or want a matching set - this bakery box is too cute!   I'm eyeing it up for storing cookie cutters or kitchen odds and ends.

Kate Spade All in Good Taste Turquoise Kettle:
I love the retro look of this Kate Spade kettle and that soft turquoise hue is pretty perfect.  However, this turquoise kettle from Amazon is pretty cute too - its handle is even turquoise.

Turquoise Coffee Maker:
I still use my old porcelain Melitta pour-over brewer, but I'm tempted by automatic coffee machines.  I drink so little coffee at home (I'm an avid tea drinker at home, an insatiable coffee drinker when I'm out), but I'd be tempted with a beauty like this on the counter.  P.S. Keurig makes a cute turquoise coffee maker too.

Turquoise Pyrex 100 Year Anniversary Measuring Cup:
Don't laugh at me, but when Hubby and I drove to Minneapolis MN one year, getting this cup from Target was definitely one of my main objectives!  I also picked up a turquoise colander at the same time.

Turquoise Oven Mitt Set:
My oven mitts are so old and - SHOCKER - not aqua.  They're about the give up the ghost so I'm already casually shopping for another set and this seems like a good deal - 5 pieces for under $18!  This set of turquoise tea towels is pretty too.

Turquoise Metal Colander:
Perfect for instagram-worthy photos of freshly picked strawberries ;)

Turquoise Kitchen Canisters:
I found a second set of turquoise metal canisters, if plastic isn't your jam.  I am obsessed with keeping food in sealed jars because I'm terrified of pantry moths! 

Turquoise Slow Cooker:
How adorable is this turquoise slow cooker (also this smaller turquoise slow cooker)?  When I bought one I had just moved cities and was moving into my first apartment with Hubby.  I was so overwhelmed with the ginormous list of things I still needed to buy, I hurriedly bought a huge white slow cooker with a farmhouse kind of vibe.  Much to my chagrin, it's one of the few appliances I haven't had to replace.  I hate it so, but it does work really well.  If you're thinking about a slow cooker DO IT - they make life so easy and there are some really fabulous gourmet slow cooker recipes out there.  Just invest in a cuter one than I did, because these things seems to last forever...

Turquoise Kitchen Timer:
Our kitchen timer just up and died one day - and I almost burned the Shepherd's Pie!  It was an awesome magnetic timer with multiple hours and two separate timers, which we used everyday.  I cannot find its replacement and I'm so bummed, but this turquoise kitchen timer might help me deal with the loss.

This retro turquoise clock with timer is SO similar (I love how more of the aqua shows) but they're both cute, frankly! With a built-in kitchen timer - that's handy!

Turquoise KitchenAid Stand Mixer:
They position the candy-colored stand mixers right by the entrance of my local Canadian Tire and I stop to ogle them every. single. time.  I have a perfectly good turquoise hand mixer and a million bowls so I really can't justify this purchase but maybe when we renovate our kitchen and there's far less aqua, I'll splurge because it would look so good out on the counter.

Turquoise Pots and Pans:
I am still loving my turquoise Kate Spade non-stick pots (here's the sauce pan) and non-stick pans.  When I first used them I still used a little oil, but these days I barely use any - usually none - which has been fabulous because I liked being able to control the amount of cooking oil/fat I consume.  They are just so cheery and they look great on the stove top.  I swear, they make cooking more enjoyable!  Plus they wash up easily and seem to be great quality.

But this Urban Outfitters turquoise cookware set looks like a great deal too, and Rachel Ray has a great turquoise pot set as well.  Wow - I didn't realize until now how abundant turquoise pots and pans are!

Turquoise Blender:
I have a ridiculous number of blenders: three, to be exact.  My turquoise blender, another cheap blender from Costco when it looked like my turquoise one had failed (we fixed it!!), and a magic bullet for when I'm making smoothies solo.  We love a good protein smoothie around here, so I devote precious cabinet space to two of my three blenders.

Mint/Sofa Turquoise Toaster:
I used to love a toaster oven but when ours failed, my Mummu gave me a four slice toaster she got for free.  It's worth something like $200 and darn it if it isn't the best quality toaster I've ever used!  If it ever bits the dust, this turquoise toaster will be my first choice. I don't think I'll ever have the cash for a Smeg fridge, so I love the idea of getting one of these cuties at least, to capture that retro vibe.  Who else is craving waffles now?

This countertop oven is pretty darn amazing. I wonder if I could somehow use it in the boat...

Kate Spade Turquoise & Wood Kitchen Tool Set:
I have recently added a mix of worn wooden spoons to my chrome and turquoise KitchenAid tools (which I store in a clear glass vase on the counter).  I've added a few wood accents all over the kitchen, actually, and I love how they've warmed up my turquoise kitchen without adding another color and breaking my mostly monochromatic palette. 

For just solid turquoise kitchen utensils like mine, this set is a good buy.  Mine are KitchenAid, which I bought piece by piece to replace my utensils that had worn out.  I didn't buy everything in the set, because it was already kind of expensive with shipping.  Now some of the prices are really high because it's discontinued but I get asked, from time to time, where I got my kitchen tools so here's what available: turquoise can opener, turquoise pizza cutter, turquoise whisk, turquoise slotted turner, turquoise short turner, turquoise spatula, turquoise vegetable peeler, turquoise kitchen shears, turquoise measuring spoons, turquoise mesh strainer, turquoise basting brush, turquoise tongs, turquoise ice scream scoop,

Even though we can tell whether the dishwasher is clean or not because usually the little dishwasher puck caps flips when it's freshly washed, Hubby and I still ask each other, "is the dishwasher clean or dirty?" about three times a day.  We need one of these magnets!

Turquoise + Yellow Inspiration

Just as I was bragging about a warm winter, the temperature dropped and we got a ton of snow.  Earlier this week I cleared the driveway and it was fairly cold (-29 Celsius) and windy.  No matter what direction I tried to blow the snow, I ended up with a face full of it.  When I was finally done, I was so chilled that I just crawled to the sofa and curled up with a cup of tea and treated myself to a little guilt-free Pinterest scrolling.  I pin so much, so sometimes I like to go back through my own pins and get re-inspired (and trim the fat).  This time my eye was drawn to a particular color palette: aqua and yellow spaces!  Yellow just complements aqua home decor so beautifully.

I think this aqua brick house, with its happy yellow front door (captured by Alex on the Road), might be my favorite photo of all time.  These people are my people and it's a shame they live in London because I know we'd be fast friends.  How could you not be ridiculously happy coming home to this colorful house exterior everyday?  It makes me want to paint our garage aqua instead of the charcoal grey I have planned.

As we moved from the townhouse to the lakehouse, I edited our belongings and, in the de-cluttering process, weeded out a lot of the warmer colors in favor of a cool, watery whole home palette of blues, aquas and greens.  To me, the cool colour palette is calming and relaxing.  There are so many different shades of blue, green, and turquoise that in real life the palette feels quite lively - something difficult to capture on camera, which makes many of the different shades look the same.  Despite my rigorous editing, I did, however, keep small doses of yellow and orange decor.

Despite my best editing efforts, I guess I can't help but love a little bit of yellow or orange paired with my aquas so I rounded up some inspiration because a big change is coming to the living room soon and it might just mean a splash of warm colours... 

This aqua front door looks a lot like mine, so I think I might need to track down a yellow chair for beside it.  Hmmm, maybe I should paint the siding white instead... I haven't been able to paint the exterior of the lakehouse for two years and now I'm starting the waffle.

Morgan Tinker's home was featured on A Beautiful Mess awhile back and I started pinning her home like crazy!  There are so many reasons to love Morgan's style:  she dyed a slip-covered Ikea sofa turquoise (awesome), has a gorgeous mint kitchen with retro touches, and has an enviably art collection.  And that retro mustard chair with hits of turquoise!

The rooms below are from a house tour featured in Style at Home that I just love.  The home owners have a mint green stove and fridge (!!!) which I like to drool over from time to time.  The home is quite colorful and the bedroom boasts a cheery colour palette with heavy doses of teal & yellow.

The room below, from Maisons Du Monde, is likely a staged space but look at the perfect pairing of teal and yellow!  I love how they mixed all of the different shades of teal and aqua.

A mustard yellow chair looks perfect against turquoise floors!  Why, oh why, do I not have turquoise floors anywhere?  I was really smitten with the aqua floor in the townhouse laundry room.

This mid-century modern home below is very colorful, but the palette in the living room is the most reserved of the entire home, offering up mostly yellow and aqua on a neutral background.  I love how spacious the room feels, thanks to light coloured walls, floors and furniture - plus the big windows don't hurt.

All white kitchen + pops of colour is a look I don't think I will ever tire of, no matter the trends.  I'm currently plotting the kitchen renovation because I know it will take some time to figure out the details.  I'm torn between walnut lowers, to match the bathroom, and white uppers, or just a classic, all-white space.  In this bright kitchen, the mismatched dining chairs are so fun and I love how one of them matches the backsplash perfectly.

A different spin on this color combo: a bright yellow squishable sofa paired with an aqua ceiling.  I've often been tempted by an aqua ceiling because I feel like it must really bring the outdoors in - like you're sitting under the sky on a bright day.

I am so smitten with this square art, maybe because it reminds me of a painting I did, ages ago.  What a simple way to bring some colour to a space - and the wood grain peeking through the lighter colours has such a subtle, organic feel.  The bright yellow bench cushion under it is perfect.

DIY Round Polka Dot Pot Holder with Heat Shield

My Mom and I have been collecting vintage Pyrex together for years, but we never saw eye to eye on the clear Pyrex flameware: clear glass pots, double boilers, coffee makers, tea kettles, etc.  I thought they were boring, but my Mom discovered that they work really well with glass top stoves because their bottoms are really flat.  When my Mom got her glass top stove, I was moving out so she gave me some of her wibbly wobbly pots and pans and started collecting flameware.  Fast forward three ovens, and many years later, and now I have a glass top stove too!  I curse her hand-me-down pots every time I use one - and now I see the appeal of Pyrex flameware.

So far, the only flameware I actually have is the tea pot/kettle, which is genius!

Boil the water and steep the tea in the same beautiful vessel - perfect for a small kitchen like mine because I no longer need a separate tea pot.  Plus the glass pot looks so pretty sitting on the stove.

The only downside is that the glass lid gets really hot, so I wanted a little aqua pot holder to use with my tea pot.  My Mom and I whipped one up, using leftover fabric from the polka dot laundry room curtains.



Isn't it adorable?  I wanted a round shape to complement the polka dot fabric, and a small loop so I could hang it up beside the stove.

It was a breeze to make and required only a few supplies:

• Cotton fabric (this one is kind of similar)
• Thread
• Sewing machine
• Ribbon or twill tape for loop
• Heat shield fabric (also called heat reflective fabric or poly-therm fleece)
• Scissors
• Paper for circle templace
• Round object to trace (like a plate)

Steps:

First we used a round plate - slightly larger than the size I wanted the finished pot holder to be - and traced it onto graph paper to use as a template.

We pinned our template onto the fabric and cut out three pieces: two circles from the polka dot fabric, and one circle from the heat shield fabric.

With the circles cut, we cut out a piece of twill tape for the loop.

Then we pinned the three circles together.  Because the fabric is reversible - and I wanted one side cream on aqua and the other side aqua on cream - we pinned them together so the "right" sides were facing each other, and the heat shield fabric was on the bottom.  Here's a peek at the order:

We tucked the loop between the two fabric circles, facing away from the edge.  We sewed the edges with the machine, leaving an opening to turn everything right side out.

To make the curved shape easier to flip, we cut little notches around the circumference.

We turned it right side out and then sewed shut the small opening.

And, voila, a perfectly-sized pot holder to solve my oddly specific kitchen dilemma:

(I've been itching to make one of these since we made those adorable, child-sized pot holders and itty bitty tea towels for the play kitchen we made.)
