Sweet, right? I recently bought it at an estate sale and love that I finally got my hands on a neon accessory. Neon is so hot right now and, although I don't normally follow trends, I've been intrigued about this one. Especially because I wear a lot of grey, white and black - a great base for bright accessories!
Truthfully, I was looking for vintage jewellery to spray paint a highlighter hue, but looks like the work was done for me.
I've been collecting some DIY options for neon accessories and thought I might share, in case you'd like to DIY yourself some bright goodies. (I'm still on the hunt for some vintage supplies because one brooch is not enough). Here are some ideas:
Spray paint a necklace with your favorite neon hue, like this Glitter 'N Glue makeover . . .

The same technique can be applied to bracelets, too. Sonya Nimri neon-ified some simple bangles and they look great:

I have found a few amazing, sparkly mid-century brooches thrifting but it breaks my heart because they are just too glam for my life. I recently wore one to a conference and was over the moon for a place to wear one!
I'm hoping this hot pink one is easier to wear with my casual wardrobe.
Love it! This is such a fun trend... very late 80s/90s... so if you keep your brooch forever, it'll come back in style every 20-30 years!

DeleteIt's funny how what's old manages to almost always become new again :-) I totally remember all the neon colours people wore at high school in the '80s. And the leg warmers and the flip hair style that the cool girls always got right but I could never quite figure out ;-)

It does, doesn't it? Yes, neon hues are very 80s and 90s. Ahhh, the 80s. But I love that the modern interpretation is toned down, a little more mellow. I think highlighter hues needed a second chance with a little less hair crimping, lol.
