In addition to laying down painter's tape, I've been using a wide scraper to push the carpet away so I can neatly edge. I have a larger edger too (maybe meant for carpets?), but it proved too big and unwieldy so I switched to this. I've done about 90% of the basement with my scraper pal by my side and it's worked pretty well. I almost hesitate to ask because it's so late in the game for me: do you have a trick for painting around carpet?
Meanwhile, I'm thinking about what colour to paint the laundry room floor. It will have the same greige walls as the basement, with black and white textiles (it's a surprise), and industrial-style shelving (I hope). I had narrowed down the choice to turquoise, orange or raspberry but because of my passion for turquoise, it was an easy choice: something in the green-blue family. Now I'm thinking . . . do I want a deep teal, a super bright Caribbean turquouise, maybe more of an on-trend emerald hue, or something soft and vintage like mint green?

After ripping up grotty 40 year old orange carpet (the most disgusting thing EVAH!) I painted my basement floor something pretty much like the kitchen floor in pic 4. And I love it. It's fresh and light and makes the basement much more livable.
ReplyDeleteOh gosh, that sounds like truly horrible carpet! #4 is one of my favorites! I think I am leaning toward a shade like that (winterfresh in the colour chart).

Haha! You will love this floor. I think the laundry room might be my favorite when it's done. I am hoping when I bring in a sample I love, they can colour match it with the same richness for the concrete paint I am using.

ReplyDeleteOoooo, Tide Pool is a gorgeous shade!! It is actually one of my favorites, but the basement is so dark it might look gloomy down there. But it will look fabulous for the living room!! I'm so jealous :)

ReplyDeleteI'm doing Smokey Green by Benjamin Moore with my all over Sandy Brown CC-150 Benjamin Moore color in my living room! Right now it's Fragrant Cloves by Pitsburg.. I'm ready to change from orange! My one other feature wall is Cocoa Pecan by Pitsburg.
I googled Smokey Green and it is SUCH a gorgeous colour!!! It's surprisingly neutral but with a lot of life to it.

(I work at a cabinet showroom as I mentioned before - designing kitchens and fun stuff) And I put it against my flooring and my Sandy Brown CC-150 (It looks SO much darker on the samples.. in real it's not that dark! I didn't choose it.. we bought a spec home) and it will feel SO relaxing! Next step: white art gallery wall and white curtains. It will be SO relaxing! You don't have facebook yet??

DeleteNo, no Facebook and I have a Twitter account but only tweeted once. I'm just not a fan of either social networking platform. Plus, if I start with either I'll have to blog less, because I'm already swamped with work, research, the blog and the etsy shop . . .
I know that it helps blog traffic to have them, and also helps stay connected with friends, but I find not having Facebook helps me keep connected with people because I need to meet with them, have coffee, and say "hey". Although, I can see the benefit for keeping up with long distance folks. I'm not opposed to the idea, I just am not a fan of how Facebook is set up.
I totally understand! FB becomes a bad addiction! But my excuse is.. I 'meet' my husbands family on FB (they're all in South Africa. Kudos to you for staying away!!

That is a perfectly good excuse!! Facebook is awesome for things like that. I would probably get on board if it was set up differently. The privacy settings and also how busy and messy it looks frustrate me (I've tried to like it, I swear!).
DeleteHaha you can LEARN to like it! I used to have 'Myspace' and thought Facebook was AWFUL.. well.. you grow to love it! And hate it.. it can really glamorize people's lives.. I read an article like the Facebook effect (affect??) or something about how we get so discouraged because everyone is so happy and perfect and we aren't..
DeleteUh oh, sounds like you're trying to lure me to the dark side, lol!! I think I read the same article about Facebook, but I think any social media is like that. Some people only highlight what's super awesome in their lives, so other folks feel deficient because their lives aren't super awesome all the time. At the beginning of the year, other bloggers started listing all their awesome accomplishments but I rounded up what I thought were pretty funny happenings, like getting headbutted by a three-legged dog. I don't think anyone would look at my Facebook page and feel discouraged ;P

Awww, I'm excited too! It will be a hassle moving the washer and dryer but I'm looking forward to the finished product. The laundry room is a small space, so I think it's a perfect place to have a little fun with colour because it won't be overwhelming. I've never painted a floor before, so we'll see how it goes. But I'm not there yet - still have walls and ceiling to do.
