I think my Artful Expedit Hack might be one of my favorite DIY projects because:
A. It was easy (and fun!).
B. It was inexpensive.
C. It solved a problem (ugly binders I wanted to hide, but not with expensive Ikea doors).
D. I found a new place for DIY art (I'm running out of wall space).
E. I look at it every freaking day (and it makes me smile).
I shared a reader's super chic burlap version of the hack not too long ago, and here is a different (unexpected!) version:
Kayla was inspired by my hack but decided to just use the canvases as purchased. I love that my idea saved her a bundle on Expedit "doors". Bonus points for the sweet kitty (kitty not included).
Have you hacked any Ikea? Do share!
P.S. If you have a chance, I'd loooove your vote in Apartment Therapy's The Homies.

I always loved yours, and this is a cute twist!

Thanks Jenny!
DeleteHers looks so clutter-free and clean, I love her take.
I'm going to use an Expedit in my new bathroom, but I'm going to take the lazy way out and buy several of the Knipsa baskets to store the things I don't want to show.
ReplyDeleteKayla's white version of your hack is really neat and clean.
Baskets are such a good idea for a bathroom. I'd call that clever, not lazy!
DeleteI do love a good ikea hack! I did this lack hack ottoman a little bit ago

Your Ikea hack is gorgeous! I love the idea and the two paired side by side look perfect. Thanks so much for sharing!
Deleteaawwww, I wish the kitty was included :) This is an awesome idea
ReplyDeleteHaha, I wish the Kitty was included too.
DeleteLove the clean, uncluttered look of this. Every time I attempt clean and uncluttered I end up with either an empty room or 20 throw pillows. I'm just a girl of extremes, I guess.
ReplyDeleteHaha, I know! It's tricky to find a balance between homey & empty. Sometimes the townhouse seems empty in photos but that's because it's so small, so I'm trying to keep it looking airy and not bogged down by stuff. But this Expedit is really uncluttered and I love it!
Deletei love this hack! do you instructions on how to hang the canvases?
ReplyDeleteHi Julia, yes I do! This is my original post with super clear instructions and photos:

Then I did a second one with solid turquoise canvases:

If you try this project, I'd love to see!
